Chinese Kickboxing

Become courage.

Strength is forged in the fires of stubborn determination. Confidence is not built by guarantees but by proving your worst critic wrong--yourself.

When you train with us, you are choosing to start the journey of becoming your best self--someone who can protect themselves and those they love, someone who has the strength to stand up after they've gotten knocked down, inside or outside the ring.

By learning to fight, you will learn all of the skills necessary to defend yourself against a forceful attacker. You will pressure-test your reactions in a safe environment, and you get an incredible workout in the process.

Frequently Asked Questions

I don’t want to spar or get hit. Is that okay?

Of course! Everyone’s goals are different. You can take the class to the level you prefer. If you want to build up to full-contact competition, you can do that. If you just want to get a sweat on and hit some pads, you can do that too.

What will we do in classes?

Classes start off with a fast-paced warm up, followed by any combination of footwork drills, pad drills, partner drills, and other activities. Curriculum includes standard punching, kicking, slipping, clinchwork, and takedowns. Different rulesets between MMA, muay thai, and sanshou fighting are explained. We do not currently grapple during class, but that may be added at a future time.

Do I need to have any experience?

Nope! While classes build on previous weeks’ curriculum, they are modularized so that every technique you need in that class will be taught that day.

How often do you compete?

We keep a pulse on the martial arts communities events, particularly Muay Thai of Colorado, International Chinese Martial Arts Competition, and the United States Kuo Shu Federation. Each of these organizations holds smokers (unscored, unsanctioned practice matches), competitions, and tournaments throughout the year. Additionally, we have several contacts with nearby schools for further training. Ostensibly you could find yourself in the ring over a dozen times in a year!

Is there a uniform or rank structure?

For our Chinese Kickboxing and Wushu programs, we have no uniform or rank structure. Competitions may have their own specifications, which we will address when you get closer to that point (if you so choose!). For standard classes, wear workout clothes you feel comfortable in and can move around.

What equipment will I need?

At minimum, students should have 16 oz boxing gloves and hand wraps. Shin guards, mouthguards, head gear, and cups are also suggested if you plan on working live with a partner; those items are required for competition. We have some equipment you can borrow, but we highly suggest getting some of your own (sweaty loaner gloves are gross!). Unsure where to go? Drop by our store.

Are you ready to work?

To get started, we have a 30-day unlimited trial available to all potential students. There is no obligation or longterm contracts ever. You have nothing to lose (except maybe a few pounds).
