Wushu

Become wonder.

The human body is capable of superhuman feats. What some consider impossible, you know is the fruits of time and work. You push your body to its limit and learn to fly.

The first day you step on the floor, you make the decision never to be mediocre again. Whether you wish to compete at that national level or just with yourself, you will find that you are becoming your best self.

By training wushu, will learn all of the jumps, flips, and spins with expert instruction. Practice the beautiful parts of kung fu without the fight.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is wushu?

Wushu in Chinese culture has a dual meaning. It can either mean all Chinese martial arts (similar to how Americans use the term "kung fu"), or it can mean a specific sport based on kung fu movement. In our context, we mean the latter. Wushu takes the beautiful movement of kung fu and strips away the physical contact. Through choreographed sets (taolu), students combine Shaolin-based technique with acrobatics.

What will we do in classes?

Classes start off with a fast-paced warm up, followed by dynamic stretching. Once warm, typical classes include acrobatic work, bodyweight training, acrobatics, line drills, and form training. We also cover rule sets for those interested in competing.

Will I get hit?

Nope! Wushu is almost entirely an individual sport. While there are some partner taolu available, even these do not require a great deal of contact. Everything is kept in a safe and controlled atmosphere.

Do I need to have any experience?

No, though students with a traditional kung fu background will have an advantage. Our curriculum works from beginning to end. Though experience isn't necessary, consistency and self-driven practice is.

How often do you compete?

We keep an eye on three particular circuits: the International Chinese Martial Arts Competition, the Denver Kung Fu Championship, and the United States Kuo Shu Federation. Additional opportunities for competition also may present themselves from Colorado Karate Association.

Is there a uniform or rank structure?

For our Chinese Kickboxing and Wushu programs, we have no uniform or rank structure. Competitions may have their own specifications, which we will address when you get closer to that point (if you so choose!). For standard classes, wear workout clothes you feel comfortable in and can move around.

What equipment will I need?

In the beginning, there are no equipment necessities. As you progress, we can cover different weapons, such as the staff, spear, broadsword, and straight sword. We have some equipment you can borrow, but we highly suggest getting some of your own. Unsure where to go? Drop by our store.

Are you ready to work?

To get started, we have a 30-day unlimited trial available to all potential students. There is no obligation or longterm contracts ever. You have nothing to lose (except maybe a few pounds).
